I want to put a canister filter under my new tank. Yes I got one more tank today. That makes 5 tanks in 30 days but my wife is in favor so I couldn’t pass it up. It was a Tetra 55 long (I call it a show tank) but also I did the math & it is 48 x 12 x 20 so it should be call a 50 gal. Why Tetra calls it a 55 g is beyond me but I did get it new for only $55. Anyway my question is what size of canister filter will I need?  I have check into a Marineland C220 External Canister Filter & they say up to 55 gal. Next I was looking at a Penn Plax Cascade Canister Filter 700 which they say is good for up to 65 gal but I have never heard of the company. The Penn Plax Cascade Canister Filter is also $28 cheaper than the Marineland Canister Filter. Anyone have any info on these filters?
TNX, Jim

That is because they measure the tank on the outside of the glass. You lose the volume of the glass because the actual volume a tank can hold is measured from the inside of the glass not the outside.

There is an old saying, "You get what you pay for." I have never wanted to own any canister except for Eheim. I have two running fine now for 12+ years.

In the long run, the cheapest solution is usually the one that costs the most up front.
