The wife has just bought some scented candles and it says "harmful to aquatic organisms, may cause long term effects in the aquatic environment". Out tank has a covered hood and is situated about 12 feet away from were she burns her candles, why is it dangerous to have the candles burning?

Any help or advice is welcomed with open arms,

Many thanks,

Mark.

Id say its ok as long as you dont get any of the wax in the tank...i think the chemicals which help the scent are what would harm the fish, the scent in the air shouldnt harm the water

As the tank is covered, I'd say there is virtually no risk.

If the tank was uncovered, that would be a different story.

Hi

If you have an air pump running for airstones etc.....It will suck in the candle fumes and pump them straight in the tank.

I've got a juwel 400 bioflow pump/filter system, this has a carbon sponge as part of it's filtration system, will that be any good?

you dont need carbon anyway, only if removing meds, etc, and after 3 days it is deemed usless
Many thanks, for that, i'll give the wife the news (good for me as i hate the bloomin candles) that we can't use the candles as we have an air stone in the tank,

Many thanks for everyones advice,

Mark.
