Looks like a VT with some fin damage, maybe he is nibbling it have you seen how he damaged it ?

Do you have anything in the tank that could be shredding his tail (ornament or tetra type fish), if not then he could be doing it himself. Treat with Melafix and a bit of salt it should re-grow as it doesn't look as though he has fin rot. :good:

cheers mate.

there is no other fish in the tank. just him. there are only some other plants in there. nothing sharp.

i have had him for a bit under a month. he was in a tank with some guppies i think when i got him. his tail fin has gotten noticabley worse tho.

i don't think he is nibbling at it. it maybe just from when he was in the LFS but just kinda falling off now.

he does however have a habbit of swimming (sometimes just floating) under where the water runs back from the filter (EC Hexa 5 tank) and getting wooshed down to the bottom of the tank. He seems to really enjoy himself as he will swim back up and do it all over again. hahaha. dunno if that is bad for him tho. doesnt look like it.

cheers for the tips!

Hmm he does look like he's nibbling them, see the small sections taken out. I have a guy that does this every now and again. He grows it all back lovely and then goes on a nibble rampage and is in tatters again  silly things.

Just keep his water super clean and watch out for any signs of infections :)

ahh!

could i be underfeeding him??? i feed him twice a day (95% of the time) but i really have no idea the amount to give him. i usually put in a few small pinches of flakes so it pretty much covers the surface. he eats it all in about 3-5 mins.

the water is spot on as far as i can tell. all the tests are perfect and i do a weekly water change of about 20-25%. it has got an amazon sword and a lilly of some sort.

here is a bigger pic.

i took some other plants out cos they were not quite suited for the tank. im going to get some more soon tho.

cheers,

hugh

Nice looking tank :good:

I only feed my adults once a day so doubt you are underfeeding him with twice a day.

They can get bored or stressed which can cause tail biting :/

yea looks like tail biting, it could be because he's bored so maybe try getting a ping pong ball and putting it in there for like 15 minutes a day and that'll maybe make him not so bored if that is the problem.

wat does the fish do with the ping pong ball ?

huhuhu not alot.

he had a bit of a look at it. nudged it a bit, then came back over to the front of the tank and asked for some food.

maybe he will play with it after he has eaten haha.

:p
