We were told it was a jumbo tetra but I can't find anything about that breed online. I ahve attached a picture

We have two and they are in a fifty litre tank with:
1 Black Ghost Knife Fish
2 dwarf Gouramis
2 angel fish

One of the "jumbo tetras" is being very aggressive with the other "jumbo tetra" it is swerving into it and chasing it away, it is also now doing the same with the angel fish.

The closest i can see to it online is a congo tetra which needs to be kept in a school of five, (we only have two and were told this was fine" They are quite large fish (about 6cm long) and so I would not have room in my tank for that many

Im convinced its a cichlid, possibly bolivian ram? blue or gold im not sure, but they can be aggressive with each other, its definately nothing to do wit tetras

Doesn't look like any type of tetra, more like a chiclid to me. Dont know what type but am sure someone will.
nath1 :good:
p.s. Not moaning, and hate people who do, but i think a fifty litre tank is well too small for a BGK. (SORRY IF I'M WRONG  )

edit: Bugger, stucolls beat me too it!!

Hope you've got a nice sized tanks, those fellas grow to a fair size and can be grumpy :)

Cool, atleast I got the cichlid bit right!!! I cant believe you were sold a fire mouth and thay called it a jumbo tetra thats insane!!!!!

The shop is usually very good, I think my partner must have remembered the name wrong or there has been some for of miscommunication.

Firemouth cichlid.

We have two and they are in a fifty litre tank with: - Not suitable
1 Black Ghost Knife Fish - Not suitable
2 dwarf Gouramis
2 angel fish - Not suitable

I think I will need to return them to the shop.
Along with your angelfish and black ghost knife too I'm afraid, the knife fish will grow to nearly two foot long and the angels anything in between a 4" and 6" disk.
Of course, this is less likely if they are kept in a tank thats too small, they are more likely to have problems and die before they reach a decent size in a small tank.

Sound's like you have a terrible local pet shop  .

You should always research an animal before you go out and buy it, never rely just on the person selling it for info :).

Good luck rehoming them :good: .
