I recently realised I have been overdosing Flourish Excel. I re-read the label recently and realised I've been adding 4 times the required dose.

Will this have been damaging my plants or anything, as I have some vallis that has gone slightly downhill lately.

no, youve just been wasteing your money, the take what they need and the rest is wasted, id just not feed for a few weeks, and let a few water changes sort it out, di

Some plants dont like overdosed liquid carbo - vallis is one of those. Riccia, elodea can also suffer if overdosed. Most of plants easily accept higher doses.
On a good side, overdose should nuke most algae in tank :)

Getting back to proper lvls should allow vallis to recover as its quite hardy plant

excel only last 24hrs in the water column anyway so continue to dose what you should be doing.

You dont always waste your money either, they create the dosage instructions based on tanks with a max of X amount of light. Some people run 10WPG+ so sometimes an overdose is needed.

If you are going to lower your dose, then do it a bit at a time...3x...2x...1x etc. over a period of 2 weeks. if defficiencies show then dont decrease the dose anymore.

Thanks, Aaron

OK, thanks guys. Hopefully my vallis will recover, and maybe I will see some growth in it again.
