Can you have a CUC without hermit crabs? I really don't want any if I don't have to have them.

Also, same theme, can I have a CUC without the snails that can't turn themselves back over?

indeed you can.. I have a 80 gallon without 1 hermit crab..
you should search for steelchairs snail post...
as for the Astrea Snails I have 8 of them... for over a year now.. havent lost one yet.. and haven right one that was on its back yet.

It is certainly possible.

Personally, I would not consider having a tank without them because hermit crabs are little darlings.

yea snails are great at cleaning and i have some red legs to help the tank out but mainly for show when people come round there like wow a crab lol

Lol, yeah same here. Couple redlegs, one big electric blue, all for show. The snails do most of the work :D

That would be steelhealr's snail post.
I thought that was funny...

Anyway. I searched for whoever wanted it:
Snails
and here's Shrimp
And while I'm at it, Crabs, and Sea Stars.
Thanks everyone

I've read the 3 pinned topics on CUC's haven't seen the one on Sea Starts yet, so I shall read that shortly.

I want crabs, just not hermits! I just don't like them! What crabs would make a good replacement for the hermits?

You don't like hermits??

I think they are great, probably the funniest things to watch in the tank. You can also place really attractive shells in the tank and hopefully they will put them on. If you don't want them then you could go for Mithrax/Emerald crab, possibly a Sally Lightfoot, Decorator crab, Arrow crab, Porcelain Anemone Crab to name but a few. I'd recommend that you research into each species, as some are more potentially aggressive than others and some may not be reef suitable, should you decide to go that route. :)
