Can You Bleach A Tank Heater?

As topic, tank is getting dismantled and dis infected. Can i soak the heater in bleach, the heater is silver.

i would have thought so, however why are you disinfecting things? there is no need.

probably just a water issue.

I did check the readings, they were fine.
I brought a new betta from the LFS, i think it may have been that.

yea, it would have been the new betta, not becuase that brought in disease, but causing a sudden spike as the filter would have had to adjust to a larger bio-load.. i wouldnt pay too much attention to test kits they are useless.

You can bleach the heater, just be careful if it isn't submersible. I've accidentally submerged them while cleaning. Its a big pain to fix, especially if it has ceramics in it. They will absorb the water and boil it when the heat up .

Yeh, but the tank is 65l and there was 4 male bettas including the new one. Bettas dont produce much waste i heard.

thats irrelivant, becuase if they dont produce much waste, then that would have been the same for the rest of your stock. So it would have had the same difference if you added a 10" Pirahna that already had 4 other pirahna's in.

Anyhoo, getting back on topic i cleaned the heater with bleach.

yes, this may be " back to the topic" but unless you think about why, then this will happen again for you..diseases, can be caused by poor water quality

Apart from the Ammonia/Nitrite Test Readings i just checked the Water Board website, and nothing seems out of normality.

Members who's bettas have had Columanaris (sp?) have said they had there fish had the same symptoms as mine. So i dont/wont know for sure.

i wonder if thats what happened to my heater from ebay, he sold it as submersible, and the package said submersible, but i think he changed the heaters over, as it just tried to boil my water and it was full of water inside making it look cracked.....

here you go;

this disease was also on the guppies i bought at the same time. they would go all crusty in patches, hardening their scales making them unable to bend and eventually killing them.

i didnt know what it was til it was too late
