i have heard that when a female has babies in the tank, the male mate immediately afterward.
is this true and how often does this happen?

thanks, this is good to know because i am doing all natural births in the tank then transporting the babies!

I leave my babies in the main tank & let them take their chance.
I don't want to be over run with guppies

I'm guessing you're referring to your livebearers. Actually, once impregnated, the female stores the males sperm in her body and will have more batches of young without any subsequent contact from a male. If I were buying livebearers for breeding purposes, I wouldn't even bother buying any males. The females would undoubtedly already be impregnated (if there were any males in the tank) and good for a few batches each.

i breed mollies and have plenty tanks to put them in as adults. i like male in my tank to be sure that there will be fry. if i have too many fry i have trusted friends that will take them!
*i would NEVER overcrowd my tank*
