ok a buddy of mine has 6 parrots, 4 silver dollars, 3 jahanni, 2 ventustus, 3 assorted africans, and like 2 plecos. he says its not overstocked, but i say it is, ive even seen the tank. the fish are a decent size too 2-3 inches. what do you guys think. oh eya its a 38 gallon tank.

Sounds pretty overstocked to me, that combination is more like a 55 gal setup at least. That said, if his fish are healthy and he keeps up the water changes, it is possible to maintain a healthy tank.

Nevermind overstocking, that tank just isn't big enough for most of those fish in the first place. It would be fine for a couple of parrots, but they can grow past 8". Silver dollars are pretty big themselves, plus they need to be kept in schoals. Venestus is a ten inch open water predetor - it needs space.

The mix is... interesting. Who know's what could work, but that list would suit a 100g nicely.

wow who ever has those in their tank, must be trying to tourture the fish. I feel bad for them. hopefully he gets the point that were trying to tell him thats its overstocked. And the selection fo the fish is a little "ify"

I say too it's overstocked the silvver dollars probally won't fare well the johani and other africans could end up killing all others and the venustus and plecos are much to big for the tank veustus will reach their full size of about 10 inches in a a very short time and require a 125 gallon tank,

There will be some serious casualties on that tank pretty soon.....That's a lot of agressive fish in a small space.....

Hey peteyz lets why don't you tell us what you have in your tanks?

First off, my tank isn't overstocked, and nothing as died. My tank is doing well, and all of by fish are healthy. I have all of the proper things that are suitable for my tank. Besides I don't have an arowana mixed in with some convicts, bamboo shrimp, and some kribs and other fish in a 38.

Hi Arthur.Ave, Ive read some of his posts and his tanks aren'y good either but that's no reason not to improve yours as a fishkeeper it is you reponsibility to provide the enviroment best suitable for the fish and keep them as happy and comfortable as possible just cause it works in your tank doesn't mean your fish are happy and it sure as heck doesn't mean it will continue to work. It's not just how many you have the mix is horrib;e and the tank is too small

What you have to do for certain is remove the Venustus and take out all johani female or all johanni males

And If your bent on trying this which I highly suggest not too do give your fish a bit more space and take some others out
I don't know much about many of the other fishes but it's just not gonna work and most of us know what were talking about

vantge, i just have a question, whats wrong with the johanni in there? They get to big ? im not being sarcastic, just wondering

Johani like other mbuna should be kept in afemale male ratio of three to one, Otherwise the females will be harrased to death, If he has three males or three femalse hes fine It may work in alarger tank if there is one male and two females, but two males and one female will definately result in a dead female

aurther ave. yours tank is like having a whale in a play tike swimming pool. get rid of some fish

oh i see. i also got another question if you dont mind. My yellow labs keep swimming around each other like chasing each others tails but in a circle. then they like do this weird shimmy thing. Are they breeding or just being territorial?
