Ok i need some help, a couple of days ago i noticed a white patch on the front of my female reams head, as the days went on it seemed as if the tissue was being eaten away. She still eats and swims around happily but at times tries to scratch and itch herself on the bog wood. As i think it is a fungal infection i am treating my tank with melafix at the mo. I started the treatment yesterday.
MY male ram however, two days ago started to loose his colour on his body and now his fins are starting to loose colour from the tips in. He also seems to sit at the top of the tank at the waters surface, not gasping but breathing normally and doesnt seem to move much.
Is this the same infection that is affecting my female???
And will it affect my other fish in the tank:
2 keyholes
6 kuhlis
6 cardinals
4 honey sunset gouarmis

Thanks any help will do, of what it could be.
Appreciated

Rams are pretty sensitive to water conditions, test you water to check for any rise in ammonia/nitrate etc. An immediate water change certainly wouldn't do any harm.

As with most diseases, its poor water quality. The stress this causes the fish lowers their immune system and allows bacteria/infections to take hold.

As i said test your water, do a water change and if it is definately a fungal infection, get some meds. The Interpet range is usually readily available and has worked in the past for me, they do one specifically for fungus.

ok i performed a 25% water change and all my water stats are fine so i have started treating the tank with melafix. This is going on for 7 days and then i will perform another 25% water change.
How long will the treatment take to work, the ful 7 days???
Thanks

It varies but Melafix is good stuff and you will hopefully see a gradual improvement over the next 7 days. Keep testing the water and don't be afraid of doing additional water changes if neccessary, even while treating the tank.

If you don't have any success with Melafix, look at getting 1 of the specific meds for fungal infections.

Good luck and keep us posted. :)
