Can Rams Go In My Community?

I saw some blue and Bolv. Rams in my LFS today and am being drawn to them, although they are about £16 GBP per fish

Would they go in a 60ltr with female bettas and Khuli loaches?

I paid that for a pair! where you based? Theyll be fine with kuhli loach mine are with 4 and never bother them. Not sure about the bettas.

What is your PH? I had rams (not exactly sure which ones exactly) but they didnt like it, the PH was high and the male died within days, the female lasted but she never coloured up, i rehomed her with the LFS when i switched my stocking

My pH is 8, I'm in berkshire. The Blue Rams were like a sparkling blue, can't remb exactly their name but they had something before the 'Blue' part, selling a pair for £35GBP (that was in maidenhead).

they will have been electric blue rams or german blue ive seen a few pairs of electric blues at my local lfs and they were around 15 to 20 pound each

Must admit I've not come across these before so not familiar with tank requirements.
Normal GBR prefer softer water and higher temperatures, not sure whether these may need similar requirements.

They sparkle in the light too,very pretty and eye catching. I found it hard to drag myself away from them lol Will go and have a little looksie at requirements for tanks

Im pretty sure they are the same as GBRs but just a different colour strain.

Yes they require very similar requirements as German blue rams. I got my German blue rams for £3.50 each.
As for ph they live in lower ph waters but will aclimatise to different ph.

Hi,

They are a colour variant of German blue rams made by selective breeding.

They have the same requirements as german blue rams which are:

1. A low PH of 5.5-6.5, they can adapt to a slightly higher PH but I wouldnt put them in a PH of 8, I'd say 7.2-7.5 would be highest.

2. They require a higher temperature than most community fish which normally makes these not a very good community fish, they need to be kept between 28-32 celcius

3. They need very low nitrates, they will not tolerate nitrates higher than about 30ppm.

Normally when kept outside these parameters they usually only last a few weeks, and thats coming from personal experience, I now have a tank set up specifically for GBR's

If you are wanting rams for a community tank you would be much better off with bolivian rams, although not quite as stunning to look at, they are beautiful fish that really show their colours once settled in a nicely planted aquarium. I have a pair in my community tank.

What temp is the tank? with bettas it should be about 28 already so they might me ok.

I still wouldnt put them in a PH of 8, its up to you but I wouldnt expect them to last long, they are very sensitive.

Yh i forgot about the PH. i Agree i wouldnt put them in your tank.
