Keep angel fish with guppies?

If not, what can go with them?

Do you mean you have an angel fish and are looking for tank mates or that you have guppies and wanting tank mates?

People could advise you better if you explained your set up, tank size, water hardness and fish you already have.

Sorry !

I have a small starter tank, about 10 male guppies will go in. Just wondered what else couldl live with them?

how small? as i imagine people will advise you against angel fish with a small tank as they get quite big

10 gallons, 20 gallons?

I'm not too sure , i should think about 10

Good job i found this place , i would of made some HUGE mistakes

What are the dimensions? It probably is 10 gallons, as that's a very common size. They are cheap, because of mass production.

Bad news: If it is a 10 gallon tank, you don't want to put 10 male guppies in there. 5 might work, but 10 is a lot.

Another option would be a male betta and 6 pygmy or dwarf cories.

Mistakes are easilly made in fish keeping. Research is the key to stop mistakes. Angels are a nice fish but grow big. There are many fish out there to choose from and joining a forum is a good way to get advice and suggestions.

T be honest, if i can only keep 5 guppies , i would be happy enough knowing i'm looking after them properly, instead of having a tank of alsorts and bodging it up

That's about 7 gallons or 27L.

5 guppies would be a bit tight, but it could work. If it is properly cycled first, you shouldn't have too much trouble. Smaller tanks are harder to look after though, believe it or not, because you have less time to catch a problem before it gets too dangerous for the fish. If you are careful, and keep a close eye on it you should fine.

You can keep more then 5 guppies, but the key is to research each fish before you buy. Angles need 'big' tanks and recommended at least an 18" height for the tank.

Have a look at this thread...(suitable fish for a 10g tank).

Thanks for all the advice, i think i better just stick to keeping a small number of guppies well than get too big for my boots and have problems.

Once i know a bit more maybe i'll upgrade.

Sorry if i've come across as an idiot, i'm just ignorant. I've never kept fish unless you count a goldfish i had at aged 11 or my dads marine tank he had when i was a baby !

No one comes across as an idiot. We all had to start somewhere, none of us knew it all and I don't believe anyone does know it all now. A lot of people, including myself have learnt from their mistakes and from others who've got more experience. Even those fish keeping 40+ years are still learning.

You haven't come across as an idiot at all, you are asking all the right questions! We all start learning somewhere. The idiots are those who believe they have learned it all already.

Keep up the good work. :good:
