I am moving in a few weeks, just a few miles. Can I simply reduce the water level for the 5 minute voyage and keep everything in tact?

Remember to take the filter material out and put it in the water, and saran wrap over the tank would help alot to keep it moiste.

sometimes stupidity takes over.. but you are best to put your fish in a stryofoam container. that is sealed , but who am I to say , it is the same.just add plenty of stess stuff :dunno:
my posts are sarcastic and get a life

Even if you empty out half of the water, which would bring it down to close to 5gal, it would still be very heavy. Just keep that in mind.

I did something similar when I had a 5g over Christmas.. I lowered the water level to about 2 inches, and put the tank back in the box from the kit with the styrofoam packed around it. All the filter media went into the water, and the fish were bagged separately.

If you keep the water level low enough that it's easy to move, but high enough for the fish, it should be fine.
Just make sure they don't get cold.

They would probably be fine.

But if it were me, i would put them in baggies to take down to the new house. Just in case! Goodluck movin! I did 4 yrs ago and that was a big hastle with my 3ft tank.....id hate to try and move a bigger one.

When i need to move my ten gallon around the hopuse I just take half the water out and pic it up, its only about 60 gallons, and half full I can still run my filter
