My betta is in a 2 gallon cycled filtered tank. I've recently discovered he seems to have become a tail biter (I've only had him for a month or so) and I had been doing 50% water changes daily to prevent finrot for almost a week now. I got some melafix and put 4 drops in his tank today. Would it be ok to change water every other day instead of every day? I would do 50% water changes, adding 2 drops of melafix each time since I'd be taking half out. I'm only going to use the melafix for a week so when I quit would I have to do daily changes? Or should I keep using the melafix? I really wish he'd leave that tail alone. -_-

btw I'm going to bed now but I didn't do the water change tonight so if it's really important to do them daily then I'll do it in the morning. Also, if he continues to chew his fins will I have to do daily or every other day water changes for...ever? The reason I got the tank w/ the filter was so I wouldn't need to do so many water changes.

If he is in a filtered tanks I dont think you need to do daily water changes. In my filtered tanks I just change 10% every other day. This is actually incidental to the gravel cleaning. Every two days a rake the gravel a bit and remove any dirt.

The betta hate his tail. Too long and hard to keep swimming. You might help him to trim his tail up. Just like grooming. It works! :D
