Can I Set Light On Glass?

I just received my new 36 inch coralife t5ho aqualight and was wondering if I have to use the legs that come with it or if I can set it on top of my glass hood without the legs?

I would use the legs. I had a light on my turtle tank and my cover glass cracked due to the heat, I had the lights too close.

I have both, majority of my lights sit straight on the glass lids though

Not the exact same one...but both T8's and T5's

I have 4 x 24w T5ho bulbs in a lighting fixture sitting on glass has been for some months with no problems though the glass does get hot it does not seem to be causing any problems, what is the wattage on yours? I would like to remove the glass and just use the legs but worried about the fish jumping, this is a reef tank btw.

I use the glass lids even with the ones that have legs......yours cant do that?

I have 2 39 watt lamps
