i dont often see my corys as the tank is so full of places to hide! but caught a glimpse of my prize female today and noticed her top fin is stripped to the bone and the little one behind it is totally missing. her tail is shredded and she has a large gash on her head. looks to me like one of the young crayfish has had a go at her :((( rounded up the other corys and they are all 100% fine.

i have seperated her from the tank (it was a fry tank they live in) as the fry were actually eating and picking at her wounds.
she is still very lively and eating fine (cant understand why she would let the fry pick at her though??)
am treating with esha 2000 (against bacteria/fungal infection and helps heal wounds, fins etc)

is there anything else i can do?

Oh, poor thing! I'd keep the water quality pristine, as infection may become a problem. I can't think of anything else...normally I'd suggest salt, but not for Cories. Maybe feed a bit of crushed garlic...it's just as good for fish as it is for people!

You might need to think of rehoming the crayfish.
You are doing everything right with adding a med so the wounds don't get infected.
Good luck.

sorry that happend, it is sad when a fish gets hurt/ dies :-(
keep it ALL alone and keep water very clean. feed lots of healthy food. garlick was a good idea. i would go with blood worms.
good luck!
and, hope she is ok

the crayfish have already been removed and put with the others in the community tank, where the only bottom dwellers would bite back!!

she's looking good this afternoon, eating fine swimming about trying to escape. seeing as the whole tank is being medicated should i release her back into the main tank this evening after lights out? or should i keep her away until the fins are back?

how long will it take for her fins to grow back, if they will at all??

her barbels are fine luckily!

I would leave her in the tank with the meds give her five days to you start to see healing fins.

UPDATE - finished the three day course of meds yesterday, now this morning the gash on her head looks red and sore again (looked fine yesterday)
should i keep using the meds or just wait now and se how she goes???????

my experience is that you should not really have crayfish with any fish to be fair, you may be ok with a plec, the reason for this is: -

1) Crayfish with small fish - the crayfish will eat and run after the fish, not leaving them alone even whilst they sleep.
2) Crayfish with big like cichlids - the crayfish will shell every so often, the cichlids sense this and will rip apart the crayfish (as once they shell, they will be like jelly)

therefore the best route is, just to have a tank for the crayfish (which is what I have done) I got a male and female, hoping they will breed, I only have a large plec in that particular tank.

and corys and crayfish...big no no

yeah i realise that now(!)

the crayfish i got were described as peaceful living crayfish, perfect for community aquariums. will not attack fish but may uproot the odd plant. all mine are female, there is no males in the species as the females are all clones

i think i got the wrong ones. no worries about that though as they have been removed and are in their own species tank now.

what i need to know is what to do in regards to the cory, more meds or wait and see

I would keep going with the med for abit longer.
What med are you using?
