i currently have a 180l aquarium with the following fish in :
1 x 2inch common plec
2 x young angels
4 x zebra danios (well 3 zebra 1 leopard!)
4 x emperor tetras
3 x cardinal neons
6 x corydoras
2 x killifish
3 x adult platy
1 x 'teen' platy

i am hoping to add either three guppys, 2 killifish, a group of kuhlis or a few more corys.

in december (the 9th to be exact!) the pleco and angels shall be moving to a larger tank (birthday prezzie!!!) would it be best to wait until they have gone, or is there still room now for a couple of extra fish?

i cant for the life of me get my head around that inch of fish per gallon rule.....?

bear in mind that angels and tetra's generally do not get along. the rule is 1 inch of fish per gallon, and you can get away with a bit more if you over filter. You need to also leave space for your fish to grow, and angels can get to a decent size, along with your common plec, which could be beyond 10+ inches within a year

i understand that, hence why in 5 months the plec and angels shall be moving house. for now the angels seem fine with the neons :)

I personally like my schoals of fish to be 8-10 per, what about just adding to your cardinals for extra color?>

i did have 10 cardinals but i find them a bit too fragile, i always thought them to be a 'hardy' fish but after losing 7 in under a month im not willing to buy anymore of those.

i wanted to add to the corys to make a bigger group, the killis too as i only have two of those (both male who if they dont stop fighting will have to be split anyway)
but the kids want guppys, and i cant put guppys in the kids aquarium as it is the 'fry' tank.

tetra's die pretty easily so i have noticed, they are always the first to go in a tank. you could do some dwarf gourami's - they add color and I would assume get along with everything, but I would check about angels.

DG's are really weak and susceptible to disease, wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

i would suggest waiting until you've moved the fish around before adding anything else, don't wanna overload the tank now and it's only a couple of months to wait until you've got the new tank
