I have a 55g established tank. My current stocking is as follows.....

9 Brilliant Rasbora
3 Kuhli Loach
1 Golden Rainbow Shark
1 Pineapple Swordtail
1 Red Wag Platy

I was researching fish last night and found that I'm really attracted to Paradise Fish. Can I add one to my current stock? I do know they are territorial and Semi-Aggressive, But so is my Golden Rainbow Shark and he doesn't bother my other fish.

Any advise is welcome!

Thanks!!!

You say that the Shark doesn't bother your fish - I don't disbelieve you, but that doesn't mean that it never will. It also doesn't mean that a Paradise Fish wouldn't hassle the other fish either. I personally wouldn't do it, but then I wouldn't have had the shark either.

Do you think the Paradise Fish and shark would fight over territories?

You're going to have 2 aggressive fish in a tank with sundry other tankmates - I think the chances of trouble in the tank are high. Whether it's between the Paradise and the Shark, or the Paradise and something else, or the Shark and something else, I don't know. It could be any combination of these.

Hmmmm. That kinda stinks! I really want a Paradise Fish!!! They are gorgeous!!!

They are lovely fish, but besides the potential aggression there is another fundamental issue...

Paradise Fish are "temperate" and in the wild are found alongside White Cloud Mountain Minnow, so they can typically be placed in a heaterless tank that changes temps through the seasons.

Your exisiting fish are "low end tropical" and "mainstream tropical" so a Paradise Fish would not do well permanently housed with them at ~23C and above.

That sucks! I run my tank at a constant 76 degrees.

You could always set up another tank for them...

The only other tank I have that is available is a 20g and that isn't big enough. They need atleast a 30g.
