I gave my Oscar some zuchhini (yes, he eats it) and it looks like hes chocking on it. (Eyes bigger than your stomach, eh Tiger?). Is he just grinding it with his back teeth? Or is he chocking!?

My bettas choke on their pellets occasionally when the pellet is too big for their mouths.. I just swish the water around a bit to startly them and they spit it right back out.

I wouldn't want to swish water around your oscar though.. not after hearing him splash while biting you!

oscars often take things bigger they can chew!!

if he struggles with it more than say 4-5mins then i would dive in to help him out.

mine will often take something big or fiddily to eat and goes to the back of the tank for a few mins to get it down then he's straight back up for more.

Yes they can, there is something you can do for the fish if it is choking, but \I can't remember the procedure.

Grand.

He's just sitting there at the bottom, when I put a pellet in he went up and ate it (splashing half the tank water on me in the process)

My goldfish have done that, and what a splash, I have to tell him off as im scared of the water getting into the light attachment.

so does that mean he's ok then?

if you ever need to get it out you will need a wet flannel and a pair of tweezers. net the fish and wrap in the wet flannel/facecloth and hold head down over the tank..sometimes gravity might help. if it doesnt then stroke him under the chin to open his mouth but usually taking them out of water does it anyway. if you can see it then use the tweezers to gently grab whatever is stuck and gently twist and pull to get it out. the fish will be fine for a minute or so out of water but if you need to gently hold him under water or release and catch again a few minutes later.
if he is a big fish then two people may be required.

I did! I HAD SURGERY ON MY BLOODY FISH! LOL!

Whata day. He had the piece lodged inb his throat, and I caught him, wrapped him in a wet cloth, than used tweezers to pull it out...Im so proud :p

I hope he has a good recovery.
