no it doesnt

unless it rots - all plants produce ammonia when they rot. The only difference is that the bamboo plant is 99% guaranteed to rot! whereas java moss is a good plant to use and not many people fail with it. Another good option is anubias species.

java moss will, anubias sp are slow growing.

Java moss can take some time to get growing as it is usually gorwn emersed, so dont worry too much if it rots slightly or doesnt grow for a few weeks. Any sign so debris in it then brush your fingers through it otherwise it attracts algae.

Lucky bamboo isnt actually a species of bamboo, and is unrelated to such.
Also, it can live fully submerged for a number of months, but will rot if sprouts dont grow above surface.
