Fish Gatherer
I’m sure there is a post on here somewhere but I can’t find it
I’m looking for a recommendation for a decent fish shop in my local area (Newcastle upon Tyne).
I’ve been to Pets at Home Cramlington (I walked out their fish were in such a dire state); although they are hit and miss generally
Pets at Home Metro Centre – they are hit and miss.
Peter Barrats (Gosforth) – I’m not buying any fish from there due to their bad health even though they have the slightly better choice .
Dobbies (Ponteland) – Are in my opinion generally ok; although they have no fish that I want.
Betta Aquaria (in Byker) – Their fish actually look ok; I however don’t want to shop there; I’ve been twice about 15mins before closing and I’ve been refused entry; once I was asked “what do you want?” when I stepped through the door.
A&E Pets (Byker) – They do decent quality stuff and I like their shop but they specialise in Marine, they have the most tiny tropical section ever.
Tyne Valley Aquatics (Mickley) – I am generally really impressed with this shop; however I was in at the weekend; they had dirty tanks and clearly a few ill fish
Dunston Exotics (Dunston; near Metro Centre) – I wouldn’t touch this place with a barge pole.
Azure Garden Centre (Cramlington) – I really don’t like this shop for some reason; they have a tiny selection and they don’t look overly healthy.
Animal Tracks (Ashington) – I work with a friend of the guy who owns this shop; it seemed ok; not a huge selection but they didn’t have anything I liked.
I’ve also been to others in the surrounding area but I don’t remember their names; they were that bad that I won’t be going back.
I am ideally looking for a male betta; I will get one online if I can’t find anything; I just feel it’s cruel to get one sent in the post lol, a male betta that isn’t blue in fact. I’m not fussy in any other way!
So any other recommendations?
