The S6500 is a really nice option.

6 Mega pixels is ideal for a sensor that size, any more and you're going to have noise problems.

I'd go with that.

Thanks, and sorry for hijacking this thread.

I was interested to know why you chose this one, and what in your opinion makes it better than a similar spec compact digital. (I have a Samsung i6 at the moment). I have been using it a lot lately, and although I would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a starter camera, I would like to see what I could do with something a bit better without breaking the bank.
The specs look impressive, especially for the price and I am seriously considering buying it.
