Camera Crazy Pictures

thanks for the link...

Just sat and read it... the growth rate is amazing!

How do you measure the CO2 levels accuratly (actually how do you do it atall?)

I have a 50gal (us) with 120W over it and plants 'survive' and do grow a bit. BUT i'm having real problems getting any noticable growth.

any tips?

Smithrc - What is the depth of your 50 gal and what kind of bulbs are you using? The bulbs you use makes a huge difference. I actually checked when I was purchasing new bulbs. I built a spectroscope to see if the tubes were emitting full spectrum. I noticed a big difference with the new ones. I also noticed big changes when I started fertilizing with only iron and potassium, rather than a general fertilizer. Oh, I also placed a few root tabs. I think it was a combination of these 3 things that made the tank explode into growth. Hope I helped :)

the tank is 40cm deep (15.75")

I've got 3x 40W - (now with reflectors)

one Hagen Aqua-Glo
one Hagen Sun-Glo
one Interpet Triton

we've got root tabs in there and have laterite mixed in the substrate (aswell as having sand under the gravel)

we used to fertilise every 2 weeks (just a general one) but the algae just used it and over powered the plants...

Smitrc - from my experience and research,
1. your bulb combination isn't good for plants ( the plants dont use sunglo and the high kelvin of the triton and aquaglo is too much for plants. the blue wavelengths are only good for helping light penetrate deeper, one is usually enough.)
2. 3 siamese algae eaters and 10 otos took care of my algae problem, but I think the SAEs were more efficient.

Sounds like everything is right, just the bulbs, try to find 2 trichromatic 10,000K or 6500K and leave your triton, I'm sure it will give you good results.

 Many thanks - Off out now ;) :kana:

fantastic looking tank! and great pictures.

it's my mission to have a tank looking like that one day, so i hope to look back for inspiration when the time comes :)

Thanks :)

here's a picture of one of my "thought to be lost" algae eating shrimp chewing on some food
