it seems that my poor guppy has got these nasty worms have been reading about various treatments kindly sugestested by wilder but have a big problem -most of treatments require a much lower ph than i have got?? over 8
i really am at the point of not knowing which way to turn :-( have never encounted anything like this before and from research i think that they may of been brought in by new plants which is the only new thing that had been adding to tank. have just got it running nice and my water levels running nice and smoothly and then get a worm which is one of the hardest thing to treat in an aquarium-fantastic! oh and most of the treatments i have been reading about-the ingredents are only avalaible in the us-im in the uk and 'over the counter meds' are useless??
please help i need a plan :-(
-fish has been separated into her own 30 ltr tank since sunday- as i have found out today they could be present in the aquaruim for months and go unnoticed -my whole stock is at risk- you may only no they are there when the fish gets skinny suken belly stops eating and then it appears (this is what has happened to dotty)!

where can i get :

SERA Nematol other than ebay fear it may be too late if i wait for that to arrive with bank holiday too!
surrey uk?

has anyone tried waterlife octozin? seems more readily avaiable?

Not sure if you are US or not, but you want levamisole. Here we can get it at most places that stock meds for live stock. Its usually sold as a pig or sheep dewormer. It works great. This link has lots of info on how to use it.

I bought some cattle drench which is 3% levamisole, still got some available, use this for my discus, started when I couldn't get a hold of the discus wormer and I find it a lot better than the powder.

will pm you.

:good: i got some!! had to pay over odds for it though!
the man didnt say anything about ph with this particular stuff though?
am starting treatment tonight so fingers crossed!
she is so much better today swimming normally again and starting to eat-little and often! :good:
thank you so much for all your help, i would proberly not of learnt all about those nasty worms otherwise-never heard of worming your fish before i came on here!!!

So you managed to get some of the sera med.
It dosn't say anything about ph on the site so it should be fine. Just check in the instructions on the med bottle.
Good Luck.
Let us all know how they get on.

all done! will keep updating on her progress!
the instrustions didnt say anything about ph either!

I think you also have to retreat with that med

yeah will do in 3 weeks time for eggs that may of hatched in that time  !!!

just thought id ask but there isnt anything else it could be really is there? if it was an ulcer it would be clearly visable on the outside of the fish wouldnt it??

Also you have to back up with a bacterial med.

Ulcers can be caused by external parasites.
Ulcers are pink or red with a circling of dead white tissue around the edges.

http://www.fbas.co.uk/Ulcers.html

Ulcers show themselves on the outside of the fish. Red inflamed anus can be due to ulcers and dropsy.

Also internal parasites can damage the swim bladder.
The fish that ill might not make it. The damage might of already been done.

When you finished the first round of wormer med and done a water change. Then add a bacterial med like anti internal bacteria med by interpet.

Diseases: Swim bladder disease can be a by-product of a number of different bacterial and parasitical infections in the fish.

A link.
