One of my Bolivian Rams has small red stringy stuff protruding from his vent. Research leads me to think it is a Camallanus infection.

Further reading suggests Levasole is something to try. The question is where can I buy it without going through a vet? Can anyone point me to an online UK source?

Thanks!

Try an online search found a supplier online but forgot where to look.
Yes a vet will be able to perscribe it for you, but usually they like to look at the fish.

I did find one place and put in an order but I'm supposed to have livestock before they can sell it to me. Anyway we'll see. Thanks for replying so quickly!

Just a quick post - I am expecting some 3% Levasole solution to arrive soon (tomorrow?) and want to check that the dosage I have calculated is correct.

I have a 180l tank (estimate about 160l water, volume of gravel, rocks & bogwood taking up the rest - I hope that's about right). I change 45-50l weekly (which looks somewhere between a 1/4 & a 1/3 of the tank)

I worked out 4.1ml per 7.5l water volume or 87ml for the tank with the 3% solution. Can someone please do a quick maths check for me please!

I'm typing this as I check it, so you will have to bear with me.

Add 1.5 milliliter per 7.5 liter of 7.5% Levacide (levamisole hydrochloride) to each tanks to be treated.

You have a 3% solution, and the dosage is for a 7.5% solution. So you need 2.5x's the dose to get to the same amount of meds in the 7.5% solution. That means you will need 3.75 ml for every 7.5L.

You estimated your tank had 160L of water. That means you will need 160÷7.5x3.75 ml = 80 ml of meds to treat your tank.

Also you have to have a certain ph for the med to work.

Cheers - I was pretty close then.

pH is 6.8 or thereabouts and it neds to be less than 7 so I'm ok there I think.

Thanks!

Good luck, watch out for bacterial infections common with these nasty parasites.
