hi, im ex perth (spent nearly 25yrs there on & off) now in london uk.
need to ask all you lot still there how the hell do you keep your tank temps down in summer??? esp in perth when it hits the old 40's??? only wondering cos we didnt get into fishkeeping till we moved here & we struggle in london in summer with an overheating tank & ive always wondered......

We have air-conditioning so it isn't a problem, but I guess if the water was really hot you could use a pedestal fan or something?

I have a tank with hood lighting, so my temps do tend to rise in summer. I just turn off the lights or remove the large hood. I have glass lids on it also. But the most my temps have ever risen is around 3 degrees.

Or if it DRASTICALLY heated up to the point of your fishes health suffering, you can float bottles of chilled/frozen water in the tank.

I leave my tanks be in summer. I tend to change the lighting so its on more during the night than the day but besides that I don't do anything special. The temp of the tap water isn't any lower than the tank. I used to use ice bottles and all but it caused all my fish to get ich (cause they hung around in the cool part near the bottles).

My tanks have got to 35degC without any adverse effects to the fish.

35C AHHHH, man, ur lucky u didnt loose any fish! I spose it depends on the fish you have and the rate at which the tempperature rises. I imagine that would be pretty important factor.
