Hi everyone,
Who has experience with cabombas? I purchased a group of 12 about 3 months ago and I only have about 3 or 4 left.
The problem I have is the cabombas seem to be rotting at the base just above the substrate which causes the plant to float up to the top. There are some new growth but I am afraid once they grow a few inches it will rot at the stem and float again.
Here is my set up:
6 gallon fluval edge
2 160 lumen led mr11 bulbs (2.5 W each)
Fine sand substrate
1 root tab every two months
C02 system
4 neon tetras
My GH and KH levels are pretty high as well. My pH level is at 7.5.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? My anubias and red melon sword are doing great however my cabomba and vals look like crap. I'm guessing it could be lighting because my cabombas and vals are at the corners of my tank and as you may know, the 6 gallon fluval edge is notoriously bad at lighting the corners.
If that's the case, how do I upgrade the lighting? Can anyone recommend stronger MR11s? Or how do I light up the corners of the tank?
Here is a video of my tank. I took the video after I planted everything. After about 3 months, the cabombas on the right are now just a sparse group of 3 or 4 stems. The vals on the left have melted away however I've had these vals for about 1.5 years now. The vals took a big hit in the last two months and now look like crap.
