Hey oop,

I've just got a JBL 402 C02 unit for my planted four foot South American community tank, I was just wondering how long a 500g cylinder will last in that tank if I get the C02 to 30 ppm (which is the recommended dose, right?)
If its not very long ie a month or so, what option do I have to obtain cheap C02?

cheep co2 would be a fire extinguisher (although theses are dangerous there is a thread on here somewhere about it )

Do you have a timer switch for it, as obviously you will only require Co2 while your lights are on. If you let it run 24 hours per day you will be wasting a lot of Co2. Assuming that you do use a timer, then I would suspect you should get around 6 - 8 weeks from it. Depends on a few factors like water hardness, number of plants, water disturbance, etc. First time I used a pressurized unit I blew through the gas quite quickly, but once I had it all worked out it lasted ages. I have a 2.2Kg refillable bottle on a 5 foot tank(heavily planted) and that lasts 6 - 8 months between refills.
Hope that helps....oh, 30ppm, yes spot on.

Yes the 2kg is refillable......sorry, I don't know what DtD means

Sounds like a good plan.....I'm sure all Doctors would agree, and if you feel that the first doesn't work I am certain that a follow up dosage will......

Tell her I said it was ok.......purely medicinal. After all she won't want you getting ill, will she?
