your all going to be sick of me asking questions on here!

with regards to the CO2 system what does it do and is it needed for a planted aqurium?

i've been looking through the forum for the needed information and strugling to find it. will i need it in my tank to help promote healthy plants?

as in the outside world plants take in c02 and breath out oxygen, to ensure the best growth co2 is important, however in low light set-ups with little maintinance there is no need for co2 becuase there is already enough in the aquarium water because its not being used up as much as in a high light set-up.... the more light you have the more c02 you will need and fertilisers you will need to ensure that the plants grow the best they can and minimalise algae growth....

as you are new i dont think you will need co2, its unlikely for someone to be asking about it that has a high light tank and wants to grow their plants to aquascaping standards

good luck

As AdAndrews said, there may be no need for CO2 to be added to your tank Sean. If you have the typical low light starter's planted tank, the CO2 is not really needed but a DIY CO2 can give some benefit to even a low light tank. DIY setups are available at the LFS and use sugar water with yeast to produce CO2. They can also be made from used soda bottles if you are handy with tools. Even though you probably are working with low light, CO2 is often the limiting factor to plant growth in any planted tank.

ahh right i get you both, thanx for help, i,m going to be working with a low light set up, and will try to get the plants sorted, will start small and build up slowly. if there is no need for a C02 system i will leave it for the time being and move to it when i,m more experianced

thanx again :shifty: :)
