Ok im really confused !

As i have a 240 litre tank still in its box im trying to make a list of what i have to buy !

The only thing thats troubling me is the c02 !

I dont want to get pressurised c02 jus DIY will do !

Could any of you recommend what and how many units i should buy ? !

Glass Defuser or not ?

And when if i get a glass defuser should i install it beside the filter intake ?

Any quick and easy solutions would be greatly appreciated !

Thank you

Richie !

240 Ltr will require 2 kits minimum, probs better with 3 dependant on your lighting (this is getting pricey though)

I have used the ladder that came with the kit for the last month and am sick of the cleaning of it every week, hence the thread a little lower than yours asking about glass/ceramic diffusers, and bubble counters.

Can't give much advice on these as I am only a little further ahead in planted than yourself and have no experience with glass/ceramic diffusers, so will also watch your thread with interest.

It's probably not what you want to hear, but DIY/Yeast based Co2 is not really suitable for a 240Ltr tank, especially if you are hoping to get a good and stable Co2 level.

However, Nutrafin recommend 1 canister per 70ltrs. Based on that you would need 3 or 4 canisters.
Even with that I doubt you'd be able to maintain a a stable Co2 reading and that is almost as important for avoiding algae as as the actual Co2 level.

As already said, you'll need a few yeast kits to get the right CO2 level in a 240lt, I would say 4or 5 poss even 6, which at around 15quid each is still going to be 90quid if not more, you can set up a pressurised diy for around 70-80.

OK guys thanks alot for all the input !

I guess ill have to look into pressurized :S

Does this cost alot more in the long run with refils and all ?

Richie

Ok .... i found This

Would this be suitable...

All this is really confusing me haha !

And gonna cost alot ... Guess ill have to listen to my mum and get me a job :(

Thanks alot again

The key to pressurised Co2 is to find a place to get the co2, that kit you looked to would be good as you use disposable cylinders, which you can get my mail ordered and the 500g one can actually work out cheaper than refilling JBL cylinders. If however you have a local welding shop or fire extinguisher place then that can work out cheaper.

Its really just a case of doing the research on actually getting the co2 BEFORE you buy the kit and get the kit to match :)

Thanks alot Sam !

Would it not be easier for me just to order the D&D kit and then order the refils when needed !

Once i have got over the inital cost of the kit then the 15 quid every so often wont hurt !

Question is how often would i have to replace the canister ?

Thanks

Richie

What are you Sam, the worst salesman in the world?

Rich, I don`t have anywhere to refill my bottles, but I know many welders at work who can point me in the right direction. Try looking up welding shops or beer gas suppliers in your Yellow Pages.

If i was to go for the refill way !

What would i be looking to buy ...

I guess this way is totally different to the disposable way ?

Thanks

I never profess to being more than I am :p

And yes R1ch you'd just need to order more refills when needed. My 500g cylinder lasts around 2/3 months, but it depends on the bubble rate, and given that this is a large-ish tank would think perhaps last 1.5/2 months?

Refills for larger cylinders, say 6kg would be cheaper if you can find a refill shop :)

Soo Im thinking ill just go with the D&D kit !

Itll be alot easier for me in long run i guess !

And i dont really know of any refill places !

Got a few last questions ....

How do Solenoids work lol !

and also is it possible to mess up the initial installation of the canister ie connecting the pipe and erm not getting it in lol !

I dont know as i have never used it !

Thanks !

What I did was buy this regulator this nut and tail.
The bottle I got from a company called Mainpoint in Cheltenham, they will sell reconditioned 2kg bottles and courier them to you for £35 all in, call Mike on 01242 244488 where he will take payment on a card, just make sure you mention its a reconditioned bottle you want and for an aquarium otherwise he will tell you £60....
As for a needle valve and defusser, the defussers are available from aqua essentials and you will have to source a needle valve from some where, I suggest looking on the net, I got a clippard MNV-2 but the link for the company no longer works....
