Hi,

I know this has probably been discussed many times in the past but I am in the process of purchasing a pressurised C02 system and was hoping some of you folks can recommend an all in one C02 kit as I would prefer to purchase as a complete kit rather than individual items.

Been looking at various websites (AE for one) and seen kits made by the folowing manufacturers:

Aquaponics
Dennerle
JBL
Hydor

Has anyone had any experience with any of these at all?

Don't want to spend a great deal of cash on one of these so my budget would be no more than say £100 > £120.

Any advice would be really appreciated as always.
This will be used in conjuction with EI as I have the ferts ready so its just a matter of sorting the C02 as I am currently running the DIY cannister kit (Nutrafin) which is not very stable as well documented.

Well the trouble is that its far easier to refill JBL cylinders than it is any other type, however the reg you get this JBL kits is crap, Dennerle has a much better reg. Before you buy any kit, find a place that you can get refills, its the most problematic part of pressurised CO2, and may well answer the question of kit cylinder you get. Most MA shops do them but again only JBL cylinders. Once you've found a shop, I suggest you DIY a kit, i.e. get all the parts separately, it'll probably work out cheaper as well. As a bare minimum you'll need the following (PS Ebay is your friend when getting this stuff :))

Cylinder

Reg

CO2 tubing

Diffuser

Thanks for the reply.

How about if I went the disposable route instead?
Would I require a particular brand/type of regulator that would be compatible with the disposable canisters? Do they have a special fitment?

The refillable route is worth a look, but if you decide on disposable then yes you do need a special reg and you might as well get this as part of a kit, as I dont really know of disposable cylinder regs that you can buy separately. This kit would be ok, and although its JBL the reg is different to the one I hate, so should be ok. The added advantage of disposable kits is that if you want you can get an adaptor to convert them to be able to run on refillable cylinders, so you have the choice :)

I would change the diffuser though, the one with this kit is huge! If you want a solenoid get that separately.

havent got the link as I am on a PC in portugal and therefore have no access to my favourites. lol (havent got the use of aprostophes either. ha ha)

weldUK sell the disposable regs and I then got solenoid and needle valve from aquarianversand (lunapet)

The disposable cannisters are cheap when you buy 3 from welders warehouse.

I can post up links in 2 weeks when I get back or search for a post by Nosnibor on this subject where I have already pasted the links.

Just been to my local Maidenhead Aquatics and they have advised that they will supply replacement disposable CO2 bottles and also do refills of non-disposable

Excellent news :) however at 8.21 a bottle for 600g machinemart.co.uk might work out cheaper. What size cylinders do they do at your MA? And what makes?

Sam

£15 for either disposable or refill so works out more expensive than machinemart :/
Would take 2 working days to sort out as well.

Not sure of the make but would be available in 500g and 1kg

Well in that case I would be tempted to go with the disposable cylinder option. It'll be cheaper and you can have a full cylinder in reserve for when it runs out, that way you'll not have any time when you're not adding CO2 to the tank :)

Rackie,

Did you go spending over the weekend in the end??

After alot of debating I decided on buying a kit from Hobbyfish (MK).
Was keen to get this up and running as soon as possible and did not have the patience to wait for the seperate parts to be delivered (if I decided on buying these seperately) and was even looking into buying the popular kit from the EBay German seller.

Anyway, I ended up buying the Dennerle ComfortLine CO2 Pro kit (the same one as what Jimboo posted on here a while ago with pics). I did pay over the top for this and could of probably saved £20 > £30 if I had shopped around and not let my patience get the better of me

Had to order a Selenoid off EBay (German seller - can't think of the name, about £20 inc postage) and have also ordered a bubble counter (the kit never came with one) and the Rhinox 2000 ceramic diffuser from AE as the ladder supplied with the kit is a bit of an eyesore

So once these bits come through I will post up some pics of the complete setup.

Have it running at the moment but it's not the final version and I have my EI regime on hold as well for the time being.
