I am looking at purchasing a second hand 4ft tank. It is 6 years old am i was wondering if the age of a tank would mean a higher risk of leaks etc. Is this anything to worry about, or should a tank keep going for years without any re-sealing?

As long as the tank was manufactured by a reputable company it should be fine, good quallity bathroom sealents will last 25 years so aquarium sealent should last at least as long. To be on the safe side fill the tank up outside first to check for leaks before bringing it into the house.
