Buying New Tank,

hi, i took some advice from here and i am going to swap my biorb for a bigger, rectangle tank

however, i am not sure what size to get. i dont want anything too big, but would like to choose from more of a variety of fish,

anyone got any suggestions??

As big as you can, what are your current fish?

The bigger the tank the better get as big as your budget/ space will allow

haha, i have a danio and a guppy left. i dont think a baby biorb is a very good environment for them

Personally i really don't like bi-orbs, especially the baby ones (more trouble than they are worth) ridiculousely priced things with bab filteration and poor swim space.

Like i said get the biggest you can, second hand tanks are often cheaper so you could get more for your money, but if your like me and end up buying them new then pets@home a fairly cheap with all in one set-ups, i'm also a fan of clearseals as they are cheap (bare tank only you have to buy the gear yourself) the biggest size they do is a 4ft, 48",15",12" that holds just under 150litres and is about 30uk gallons.

for 150 get the biggeest you can 2nd hand tbh you wont get to much for that price. you could get something like the rio 125 if you dont a big tank they had it going cheap online the other week can't remeber which site though

i dont like biorbs anymore, they are a nightmare to clean out. I will try and sell it though lol .

i think that size you said would be a bit big for the room i have though so would have to go a tad smaller i think

is that in liters, because i think that might be ok?? could i have a good choice in fish though?

A standard 2ft tank of 80 litres or so will give you a decent range of community fish to choose from. Though, if your budget/space allows you to go larger, it would be better still.

edit: if you like angelfish make sure the tank's 18inch high and 20usg minimum

yeh thats litres , check out charter house aquatics and it was juwel rio 125 i think. you could try nd aquatics but not sure on the price there for smaller tanks.

as for fish choice depends what you are after. if you want large cichlids you want around 300litre plus if you want thins like shoals of community fish you'll be fine with the 125.

a few more danios
a few more guppies
and some more unusual ones, but if not, i would get some tetras eventhough i never hav much luck with them

what about platys?? or something like that

You should be fine with a 125 for small shoalers

try eBay - you can sometimes find some good bargains on there, if you find someone local who is wanting rid.

Ebay for a second hand tank...I was in Pets at Home the other day and they had some good deals on 3-4foot tanks, not sure about the stands

Have a good look in the classified ads for your area.

There are lots of people moving house or letting their hobbies go due to lack of money - what with all the credit troubles people are having. You could well find yourself a bargain.

If you cant find something that you really like - then save the money. You may find something spot on in a month or so.
