Ok. I've seen/heard a few people talking about buying fish online. I have one question:

HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?

Those of you who have purchased fish online, could you please explain to me how the fish are shipped, safely, to your home...and have you had any problems with the online stores sending you bad quality fish?

well... as far as i read, they send it to you by express shippin and they put somethingys to keep it warm/cold ....im gettin to know about thaat too cuz i saw some fishies on www.liveaquaria.com that i really liked, either way, i would highly recommend u, if you are going to buy them online, that you see all of what they have in stock, and do som FAQ's , like how old are the fishies, etc.... the other day i found some article about that.... and i cant find it right now
also if you are going to buy them online..other thing i recommend u highly is that to see what in you lfs/lps have in stock and how much it cost, cuz some fishies are not worth to buy if they have them in your lfs/lps

anyway i hope that helped at least a little bit

I have bought online before (liveaquaria) and the fish are shipped inside styrofoam coolers with heat packs, overnight Fed-Ex. I think I've gotten about 30 fish this way and they have all done fine.
Just remeber that the fish at your LFS had to get there somehow too! ;)

EDIT: The only downfall is shipping, so a LFS does end up being cheaper, but for people like me who live two hours from one, shipping and gas pretty much even out.

unless it's something oddball it's much cheaper to go to your LFS. most LFS will special order fish. Liveaquaria will charge like 25 bux for shipping plus you have to have a minimum $25 order. Plus their prices per fish are very high.

my LFS doesn't stock things like cardinals or certain cories or even things like rams. And actually in the case of the cardinals my LFS sells them the same price as neons $1.49/each which is high for neons but very cheap for cardinals. if I ask on a monday they have them by wednesday. I asked them to get in panda cories and I now have 4 in my tank as of today.....though the little buggers are hiding she wound up bringing in small ones they're about 0.5" long so they're soo easy to lose sight of in the 46 with all the hiding places.

Thanks guys - I didn't know that an LFS would special order fish. In fact, I don't think the thought even occured to me. LOL.

I'd still be interested in ordering online just to see what the whole experience is like. :)
