I just got a new 10 gallon, and want to put some dwarf puffers in it. I can't find any around here, I was wondering if its possible to buy them anywhere online without paying upwards of $30 for shipping since I'm on a budget? I also asked some local petshops to order them in but they cant get their hands on them either. I am looking to stock my tank with 2-3 dwarf puffers.

As a sidenote, I have 50watt submersible heater and its keeping the water temp at 75-76 degrees. Is the heater faulty or just not powerful enough?

Hey! Welcome to the forums :)

I've been looking at ordering fish online and I would definately advise paying the $30 shipping fee, I know that you can get the fish shipped for less but it doesn't garuntee they'll be shipped in the pressurised part of the plane, a $30 shipping fee usually means they will.

But basically if they're not in the pressurised part of the plane they'll probably end up DOA :(

As for the heater, what's the ambient temperature and the temp. you've set it to heat the water to? I'm not sure I could help unless I've got details like that :)

Hope that helped!
Splatter.

$30 for shipping done correctly is a good deal.

With that $30 shipping fee you're going to get your fish properly bagged and put inside an insulated container, possibly with a heatpack if it's cooler outside. And you're going to get them faster than regular shipping would get them to you, greatly increasing their chance of survival. Definitely pay the extra money for shipping.

Also, like Splatter asked, what's your ambient temperature and what temperature do you have your heater set for? A 50w heater should be enough for a 10 gallon tank.

Well thank you all for the help. My heater is one of those pre-set ones. Its this one: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...u=0029791000000

It says its preset and you cant change it. I have it buried under the gravel, could that have something to do with why its not keeping 78 degrees? It fell to 72 overnight. The temperature outside the tank sticks around 70 degrees.

Thanks again, -William.

Yeah, it shouldn't be under the gravel. Submersible means that it can go completely under the water, not under the gravel.

As Mikaila31 says, the heater should not be under gravel. It needs good circulation arround the element for it to heat the water, and burying the element may over-heat and/or burn out the heater. Removing it from the gravel should get it working properly again :good:
