Buttikoferi Vs Snakehead

I purchased a 3" Snakehead to grow out in my 55 gallon then on to my 130. But I also have been growing out a 2" Tilapia Buttikoferi in that same 55 gallon. Knowing the temperment of both and having lots of drift wood and plants in there I figured they would be fine. But within 2 hours the Buttikoferi had killed the Snakehead. I guess I will have to grow out any others in a seperate tank. I knew Butts were mean but to kill a snakehead in that amount of time. New respect for Butts for sure.

I am surprised, I had always heard that the snakeheads were pretty tough. Looks like the Tilapia is a bit tougher.

I live in Newfoundland, Canada. A goldfish would do well to live in the ponds out here lol. I was surprised myself, if anything I was prepared to see them having some disputes over food or territory and thats all. But for that Butt to kill that snakehead so quickly. Also I think the Butt is a female, so I cannot imaigne how aggressive it would be if it were a male.

I did manage to find some info on the butts online and they said they are pretty darn mean and that most fish were not compatible with them, I think I believe them. How much did the snakehead cost you? I think they are beautiful fish but they are banned here in the states because some idiots were letting them go in the wild.

Yeah, they are mean for sure. I have kept many cichlids before and knew that the Buffikoferi were mean, but never thought it would kill a snakehead within an hour or even at all for that matter. The snakehead was only $20, so not too bad.

how big does one of them buffi things get?

My friend had a breeding pair of them and they were the biggest I have seen. The male was about 14/15" and the female was about 12 or so inches. Very bulky fish too.
