Hello all!

I have a butterfly cat and was wondering if I could put it in with my discus?

The tank its in just now is at 27/28 dg's and the discus tank is at 30 dg's.

Would it be ok with the temp?

I'm getting rid of my other tank but would like to keep the butterfly.

What exactly is your fish?

A lot of species go by the name 'butterfly cat', so we'd need to know which one your is.

If its one known as Butterfly loach, the one that sucks with its whole body and is only about 5cm or less... then no, its waaay too hot. Even 26/27 is way too hot for it, will drastically shorten its lifespan if not frying it altogether.

If you mean the butterfly plec that kind of flat with brown and beige stripes then maybe, though to be honest discus dont need to be kept at 30 degrees unless you are hatching eggs. They rarely live at 30 deg in the wild for long! Better off dropping the temperature to 27 and making it ok for other fish too.

Heres a couple of pics... please excuse the poor pic quality

It was advertised as butterfly cat in the lfs I got it from.

Ok, that's not a cat, it is an African butterfly fish. It would be fine with your discus at a temp of 80-82 degrees F. They are distant relatives of arowanas. They are excellent jumpers so keep a tight lid on the tank.
