Hi guys!

So today is a Sunday, which means I have literally nothing going on... so, I'm going to be doing a lot of tank stuff! Starting with a little rescape of my 20g long. I'm also looking for a new light for it, because the plants aren't doing so hot. I swear, once i get a better light, I'm going to go outside and shoot that thing with a 12 gauge.

Next will probably be some trimming on the 29g, along with a san vacuum.

I'll update as I go along. :)

nay, nay.... if it's sand, leave it alone to develop the very best bio-filter.
I have a Pleco and I just trimmed the Java Moss that day so... :/

Pleco really makes a mess of things.

Ah, if it's sand, you might just hover over the surface to collect debris.
Some folks get to aggressive with sand and stir things up too much which upsets the layers of the substrate bio-filter biology.

I use a fine net and run through my sand , as the sand runs through the net it leaves the poo and food in there ... I felt really genius when I did it first time ahahah but as for the substrate bio what if you have very digy fish ? Won’t they be messing it up ? My pleco can shift through 2-3 inches of sand to reach the glass

I have about the same amount as you @Guyb93, 2-3 inches.

I just use the tube part of my siphon and hover over the surface of the sand. That may I’m just picking up debris instead of sucking up huge amounts of sand.

That's how I siphon my sand as well. Bogwood + nerite snails = lots of snail poop which makes the sand look a mess. One piece of wood is hollow so during this afternoon's water change I stood it on its end and watched the cascade of snail poop flow out
