Hi all. My betta appears to have burnt his tail fin on the heater.

Firstly stats:

60l tank.
PH7 Ammonia 0.

Tank mates:

4 NeonTetra
3 Silver Mollies
3 Corys

Part of his Tail appears to be burned. He is still swimming around fine. He has never been a great eater but appears to still be eating bits and pieces.

I have a tetra combi heater/ Filter. I have seen him rest up against the heater/Filter grill before and has been fine. I think he may have got his tail in some how and touched the heater.

Any ideas/ Advice? I've been advised to just monitor the situation for now. Def worried about him as he's my fav!

I personally think it's the neons. All tetras are nippers and they are probably nipping your bettas tail. Cories shouldn't be doing anything, and I have no idea what the mollie would be doing. Chances are, it's not your heater, it's the neons. Either remove the betta to a new tank, more the neons.

If its them I'm quite annoyed as the guy in the shop said they would be no problem at all. The damage has only really appeared over the last few days, the tetras and the neons have been in together for a while. I have recently introduced the corries and mollys.

I've been reading about betta tail clamping. It look as though part of the tail is fused together. I thought that this may have been off the heater but may have to reevaluate.

The corys are no problem but the mollies are very boisterous.

def shouldnt be keeping neons with a betta, they should also be in groups of at least 6 as they are schooling fish. The mollies prob shouldnt be in there either, the corys are good tank mates for a betta though! Add some melafix to the tank it should help him regrow the damage. A pic would help

:sly: my old boys have got fused bits on end of tails. I think I remember melfafix, warm clean water and a bit of a flare does them good! or so I have read.
