Hi everyone, i went to my local aquatics store the other day and was sold a bumblebee goby? Anyway i got the bus home and within 6 hours of purchasing and put in my tank it died! We rang the place up to ask why and apparently they are notoriously 'bad travellers'. Was this an excuse or is this true? He seemed pretty lifeless in the tank he was in but I put that down to not having a swim bladder. Water conditions are fine in the tank and we sunk the bag first and followed all normal procedures. I was told they can live alone hence why we only got 1, he was the last one left in a community tank.

Thanks!

(This is freshwater by the way not brackish)

They are, that much is true. Like cory, and mandarin they produce a slime when stressed that is toxic to them. They also tend not to eat well in LFS and so are often thin and next to starving when purchased. This makes them already in a delicate state.

Though these goby can be kept in FW when they are young, they actually are brackish fish. It's not long until they require marine salt at brackish levels to survive and be healthy.

These are a great fish to keep in a brackish or marine tank (they can be acclimated to full marine like most brackish fish can and are reef safe).

I love them, and have kept them for many years.
