About 4 days ago we got 6 Neon Tetras and 3 male Guppys to add to our tank of 5 Danios. Two days in we found one of the guppys just sitting on the bottom of the tank with his fins shredded, almost no tail left. We took him back to the fish store and they guy allowed us to swap him out for another. Now two days later, the samething has happened (ironically they're both blue). I have him in a Breeder/Isolation tank right now, but is there anything else i should do to help him out? We'll eventually either get more female guppys (i hear the ratio is 2 females to 1 male) or possible just another male or two to keep him from being the only "new kid on the block"

Do you know which fish is bullying the guppies? You might need to find a new home for the bullies.

We had the same sort of problem with one of our zebra danios in that its tail got bitten off by another danio. We put him (Harry) in his own tank and treated him with Melafix for a week. He wasn't too happy about being on his own but it gave him the chance to recover and for us to sort out who the bully was which we duly did. The bully was returned to the LFS as it was a maniac and Harry was returned to the main tank. Harry still hasn't got his tail back three months down the line - presumably the maniac did too much damage - but Harry is happy and gets along well with all the others.

So if you can, isolate and treat the unfortunate one and ascertain who the bully is and get rid of it.

It should be fine to add melafix to a tank with other fish right? He's in one of those breeders with slots for water flow, and I don't have another tank.
