Alloophorus robustus a true predator this species have very strong jaws may be the reason for it;s common name.

in the wild they will feed on  small fish worms and large insects.
 

I feed mine on earth worms  Beef heart. and mussel. i find them not  to breed regularly the adults/ female will eat

there  young and it can be difficult to get  the fry from them. photo of adult male. and  one of 6 fry born today

The one  in photo is just under 3” in Captivity they seldom get more then 6”.
 life span up to 10 years brood size up to 80 fry but normally a lot lower.

Skiffia species Zacapu have had fry it’s not the easiest of the Skiffia’s to keep and breed. quite peaceful fish the fry can be Left in with the adults.
