My betta eats foiod then spits it back out.. Its what its been fed on for ages, never seen different

Is this normal or is he depressed?

He may not be hungry or he may be tired of that kind of food. Try feeding a variety of betta foods to your betta and see what he likes. His taste for foods may have changed!
Best of Luck! :good:

Yeah try him on something different :good: ..Im sure he would like a little change.. After all I couldnt imagine eating the same food day in day out..

Does he spit and then retake it, or just leave it?
Definately try something else, TetraPro is good but there is alot of specialist food for Betta that i have no clue about.
Another thing to remember with Betta is that they should (IMHO) be given at least one fast day a week and at least one day where they receive pea and no flake. I treat my fish with live foods at least once a week, the rare prawn (careful feeding prawn) and a number of different prepped foods.

Poor nutrition / vitamin deficiency can lead to a number of different illnesses so try and vary his diet as much as possible.
In addition fish can lose their appetite in response to illness (nothing specific, just illness in general) so keep an eye out for any seemingly odd behaviour.

If emaciation does occur then you likely have a problem, but it doesn't sound like you need to worry about this at the moment.....

He might be bored of the same ol food. Try varying up his diet- feed him flakes or pellets or whatever as the main diet, fast him once a week, feed him a pea once a week, and a little treat of bloodworm a couple of times a week (don't overfeed).

How long have you had him?
My gourami and bettas took a while to get used to my food and displayed the same behaviour.
Maybe he is just adjusting between your food and the LFS's?

The lfs gave me the food he was eating on for free
ive had him a day
think ehs getting used to it? new tnak and all

Thought so....
Yeah he should get used to it, did you say the tank was cycled?
I forget ????

*Sigh* Well that's pretty much your answer...
If I were you I would be doing my best to get hold of some mature media from someone's filter right now :good:.
Oh, and as many water changes as possible...

Once you get your cycling sorted, a good Betta food is Betta Bio-gold pellets by Hikari. My bettas often spit other food out, but NEVER these.

Bettas can withstand a lot of different things when it comes to water usually. So he should be fine, just be sure to do water changes as this helps a lot and be sure his temperature does not fluctuate a lot.
