Hey guys, the bulbs gone in my hexagon tank. Going to buy another bulb for it tomorrow but I'm not sure if I have to buy any bulb in particular?

I've tryed to search for my bulb online but cant find it... it's called: Lapin AQ2U-11W

Surely I can just buy another 11W bulb that has the same fixture, it's not a fancy bulb I don't think... it's just the tanks standard bulb.

Also is it possible to get the same size bulb but higher watt, to help my plants. Would that effect the bracket or anything do you think?

Cheers :good:

My tank is the Aquael Pearl 60 I think?

I found a website doing Aquael Pearl 60 Aquarium 15w Spare Bulb, the bulb i've just taken out the tank is only 11w though?

Any similar type, size, and wattage bulb should work just fine, it doesn't have to be a specific brand. I would hunt around the package, the lamp, etc. to see if I could find a maximum wattage of the lamp before using a 15w bulb, and call the company if I couldn't find it. Using higher wattage bulbs than the lamp is rated for can be dangerous. What type of bulb is it? I think a 15w is longer than an 11w anyways, if you're talking about the fluorescent tubes.

Unless its one of those spiraly deals or an incandescent.

I went to the shop I got my tank from, they said they don't make the tank any more due to some saftey reason  !

I ended up finding a pack of 3 Energy Saving bulbs in Home Bargains that fit my tank, 11watt... although they look abit more 'yellow' looking than 'white'?

Will this be a problem do you think? I thought the tank only had a standard light in it!

I can't find the original bulbs anywhere, they only do the 15watt version and it's a differnt bracket to what I have on my tank. The newer version of my tank is basicly the same, just the light fixture and hood is a tad differnt underneath (to hold the 15watt bulb).

Go back and buy "daylight" home energy spiral bulbs. The normal common kind are usually around 2700K which will be an ugly yellow color. Daylight will be a whiter light and more suited to plants. If you can find daylight look for something 5500-8000K, but you will probably have to read the fine print to find those numbers.

An incandescent light is your typical light bulb with a filament inside and a screw in base. A florescent generally has 2 pins on each side and is a long cylinder, all white. What kind came out of the tank?

go to BnQ and get one.. my tube was from there and i paid a whole £1 for it... £15 in the lfs

( im not growing plants tho)

I'll take a picture of the bulb later and see if you can find me the "daylight" version of it anwhere

I've looked in Focus, Wilkos, Buildbase, LFS and non sell it... they only sell the 15watt version of it, but that requires a whole differnt bracket fixture in the hood to what the 11watt does. (Basicly they re-designed the hood of my tank and that's the 15watt style, they no longer make the 11watt hood)

Picture to follow:

I think that's the cheapest you could get it. I see those in my lfs and they're about $15.00, but you don't have to pay for shipping there of course  .

If you can find this kind with about a 6500k color temperature (aka daylight) at a local hardware store, it will probably be cheaper.

Did you ever find the bulb? I have exactly the same problem - can't find a replacement aq2u 11 watt bulb (make is lapin). I did manage to get a spare from my ex-boyfriend who had a similar tank for making salt water for his marines but promptly broke it while screwing it into the fitting, a traumatic day all round! If anyone could give me any advice please let me know! Its the same as the one on the middle picture above but the company does not seem to ship from america.
