okay so. im new. duh- haha so my tank it's pretty clean, and my fish look happy and lively. my plants are green, and alive. the thing i dont understand is. why does the top of my tank, keep making like. bubbles?? it looks like the top of a bubble bath almost!

could the aquasafe be the cause of the bubbles staying too long? how do i get rid of this "problem" ? is it a problem??

I've not heard of 'foamy' bubbles produced in the tank before. Do they stay there for a long time or burst? How big are they? Also how much aquasafe do you use and how big is your tank?

It's possible that they're just bubbles trapped air from when the water runs out of the filter - in which case you might want to try repositioning your filter. Many people actually prefer some air bubbles in the water as it keeps the water well aerated.

I don't think the aquasafe would cause the foam if your using it at the correct dosage.. Foam is more frothy, and lasts longer. Bubbles will pop eventually and don't look fluffy. Bubbles are okay. Foam is unusual and I'm not sure what is causing them in your tank.

You should check levels of nitrites and ammonia.

I would scoop the foam off the top of the tank and do a water change. You should refrain from adding any more fish until the foam population is under control.

Also is this new setup or a tank that has fully matured?

See what the other think I'm sure you will get somemore replies soon..

have you treated with any medications lately?? some things like melafix create foam.

if its been happening a while, then i guess that wouldnt apply.

can you give us tank stats eg; ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph, tank size, tank age, filtration, feeding schedule etc might give someone some ideas :)

i have 4 mollies, and 2 corys, in a 10 gallon - so i correct myself,, i guess its not foam, its just bubbles. but its like a thin layer sometimes but they do pop over time, but are like replaced with new ones - maybe just from the air pump??

i havent used any medication, and... so maybe the bubbles are good for aeration??

im not so sure..... and tank-age? whats that..... -____-;;

LOL aeration hehehe thatll be whats doing it if you want less bubbles try and either turn the power down on the air pump if its that kind or get a less powerful pump :)

to confirm that it is bubbles, watch where the bubbles are coming from your air pump. you can generally watch where they go and what they do. if you see them go to the top and spread and not pop then thats the culprit.

by tank age i meant, how long has your tank been running?

the aqua safe will make it bubble up, i used it in my betta tank and it did it bad. if you add the correct amount and no more it shouldnt do it, but iif you add too much it will do it.

I'd say it's the air pump.
I've added a little more than the Aquasafe dosage sometimes and no bubbles come up...

but do you have an air pump in your tanks?
its the extra aireation from the air pump and the aquasafe are mixing and making bubbles

yeah, my tank has been up and running for about 2 and a half months now - and.. im guessing now that it probobly is the aquasafe and the air pump, huh?
