Hello everyone...

Bubbles was swimming around very happily and I notice something about his tail. He seems to have spilt going up the actually fin. Its not fin rot as its not the ends it spilts in the finage and there not strange colour on the fins. He hasnt made a bubbles nest in a while. Water gets changed 25% evert Tuesday or Wednesday... only gets feed a pintch twice a day. same as Peach but Peach has nothing wrong with him a bubbles does. Could he be biting his tail.

Has anyone got a pic of a betta that has bitten his tail. I dont believe he could of caught it on filter as motor is quite far up into filter.

Will add pic when possible. I dont have phone with me

This is some pics just to show you how bad it is. Im really scared something is really wrong :(

Sorry thats the best pics i could get... he kept moving and if he wasnt flaring it was hard to see

noth breathing heathy or no sleepyness... acting normal

Hmmm very odd best to watch him really closely for any odd, lathargic, hyperactive or any behaviour that isnt normal for him he could be fin nipping.

its not his top fin and they cannot reach that i got told

I think they can and ive seen it on other fish, they sought of flick round very quickly and nip a little bit at a time.

Well will keep an eye on him and let you know how it goes with him :D

I have found my partners betta has had this twice!
Just give your tank a good check over as to make sure there is nothing sharp in there he could be catching it on and give a good treatment of metafix (wonderful stuff) and keep eyes on him
He should be okies!

Give him a ping pong ball to float at the top, see if it helps reduce boredom.
Boredom & stress will be the main causes of tail biing, I've got a boy at the minute that munched his full caudal and a bit of his dorsal - it's very possible for them to reach when they want to! Melafix to prevent infection, and he'll be fine.

As someone else said, could also be something he's been caught on. Bettas are nototrious for ripped fins and it's very difficult to keep them intact without having them in a small tank with no decoration, no substrate etc. Hence why importers always have spotlessly clean, no object tanks!

so is this tail biting then ?
Will get a a little ball... where would i get this from ?
