I am going to get a small tank, 10x4x8 and put a betta in it at my desk at work. would it be ok to put an 8inch bubblw wand at the back of the tank? or would he not be happy with it, or would it be harmful to him?

He doesn't need a bubble wand, coz, as you most probably know, betas can breathe air. I don't think it would hurt him if you wanted to add it as decoration- he'd most probably think you laid on a jacuzi for him

I was wanting it as a decoration. the bubbles are soothing for me as sit as my desk pulling my hair out trying to put out another fire (figuratively) the wonderful world of IT for a private multi billion dollar company, damn I wish they would give me a larger slice of that.

I'd like a slice too please, even a smallish one would do.

Whether the betta appreciates the bubbles will depend on the fish. Some betta absolutely love a lot of water movement, go surfing in the water column and bubbles. Other detest it, like a calm, serene tank. The bubbles won't hurt it though, and it will probably be a very pretty tank. I've got a 10 gal. right now with babies growing out and it has two sponge filters going but they are sort of hidden by a forest of watersprites and it looks real nice in there.

well I got the betta yesterday with a marineland hex 5 and a bubble wand. he loves the bebblues plays in them. the tank will second as a quarantine tank fro new fish. betta will live in a pint glass during those times.

My 2 gallon in the kitchen has one. I wasn't using it at first... and when I got Vasilok, because he was in a cup with about 3" of water when I got him :grr: he kind of kept curled up on the bottom of the aquarium for a couple of days. Same position as I found him in the cup. I honestly thought he was ill.
I decided to turn on the bubbles and for some reason they kind of collected on the water's surface and stuck there. That got him immediately up and swimming around (returning to the nest?? LOL) and now he's lively as ever.
