Ok, i get all this brown stuff, not algea but that other one, beginning with 'D'. Cant remember the name now.
Any way, i put 2 otto's in and they dont seem to do that much. I have 2 plecs and they dont do much either.
Shall i get an apple snail and chuck that in, maybe that can clean the gravel as it wont be able to over all the leaves on my deco.

Detirius?

If its just like free flowing brown stuff. Its un-eaten food, and fish poo. So I doubt a pleco or Oto would clean that up. Just get your gravel vac, and suck it all up.

Its not free floating. It grows on things. I scrub it off and it takes a few weeks for it to come back.

it sounds like the stuff that grows when the tank does not get enough light, just brown algae

the word everyone is looking for is Diatoms.

to answer the question, Yes apple snails love the stuff
