Broken Safety Adaptor On Eheim 2073

I did my weekly water change and was going to clean my Eheim 2073 out,
 
I unplugged the pump and went to turn the safety adaptor off.
 
For some reason it had gone tight and as i moved the lever to the off position it broke so now i cannot release the adaptor!!!!! 
 
Has anyone had this happen to them before, and if so by stripping the pump down i can release the safety adaptor and replace it with a new one??
 
Any ideas will be welcomed

Hope you have managed to fix this.

Hopefully should assist you in releasing the safety adaptor (tap unit i presume).
I have read about the float getting stuck in the tap unit which causes a similar issue so be prepared to replace that as well just to be on the safe side. It only costs a couple of quid.

Thanks Barry but some gentle persuasion with a screwdriver cured the problem
