Ok, I've noticed my big male LF ancistrus has broken his right fin in HALF! :-( Can I do anything for him, will he re grow it at all?

he is currently fanning in a cave so my guess is he's done it while mating

Will the broken bit just fall off?

HELP!

Is the break clean.
You might want to trim the fin if the fin is flapping about.
You wrap the fish in a cloth soaked in tank water, ask someone to hold the fsih down for you.
Steralise some scissors and remove the broken part of the fin.
It should grow back I think.

It is a clean break, and yes it's flapping and with him being a long fin there is a lot more to flap. I really don't want to hurt him anymore. But do think he will catch it again if I don't.

I'll try and get a pic. Thanks! Wilder.

Does it look flimsy and will come off on it's own, or does it look like it could take a while to fall off.
Not familar with this type of fish you might be better getting advice in the right part of the forum.

If you think the fin is causing him stress I would cut the hanging bit off.
